A quick stay in country town Macclesfield, we could not find the cottage so decided on a coffee. I noticed the old nylon stringed guitar leaning on a fence and a few “locals” sitting outside in the sun. After sitting down to join them with coffee and cake, I noticed a whole wall of old faded photos, from magazines, of cars and bikes – nothing memorable. The guy who was sitting nearby said this was the backdrop to their Wednesday evening gigs and if “Wendy” would join him they might sing a song. Almost prepared to go inside, but being polite we sat and waited – the old guitar guy and Wendy started with “Hallelujah” – rather ambitious I thought. Then, boy, what a beautiful version, equal to the best (not counting Leonard Cohen who IS the best), what a voice and that old nylon string guitar was simply magical. So impressed I had to grab the camera and take a photo or three.Followed by “Me and Bobby McGee” , then “Mercedes Benz” (Janis Joplin). All good, and a voice similar but more toned down than Janis’s. Such talent hidden in the back blocks, we were privileged.
Not the best photo, but it is Wednesday night, so thinking of you guys!!!
